What does a Hope Global mission trip involve?

Many great memories are shared and made within our teams, there are plenty of outings, laughter, tourist activities and shopping sprees yet the bulk of the trip will involve running 2-3 day training conferences, mentoring educators, visiting our projects and working with different leaders and communities to train and up skill them in issues relevant to them.

The purpose of the mission trip is to work alongside teachers and schools and empower them through practical training so they can deliver a higher quality of education to their students. We also work with different community groups, church groups and local leaders training and up-skilling them in what they do.

I am not a teacher, can I still volunteer?

YES!! Whilst the bulk of what we do is train teachers, you DO NOT need to be a teacher to join our trips. We need people with the following expertise on every trip:

  • Teachers (Early Childhood, Primary & Secondary)
  • School Leaders/Principals
  • Leadership & Management Trainers
  • Administrators & IT Trainers
  • Special Education Teachers/Trainers
  • Health Specialists (optometrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, counsellors, social workers, etc.)
  • Tradesmen
  • Photographers/Videographers
  • People with a heart to serve

What is a typical itinerary for one of these trips?

The length and what is involved in our mission trips vary from country to country and from year to year.

Our Rwanda trip is typically the longest, usually taking place for two weeks.

Our Cambodia and India trips however are shorter and usually last approximately 10 days.

How much does it cost to volunteer with Hope Global?

Volunteers are self-paid and trip costs vary from country to country. Volunteers are responsible for covering international flights, travel insurance, on ground transport, accommodation, visas, immunisations and meals (where not provided with accommodation).

A guide, a trip taking place to Rwanda is typically AUD$3,500 – $4,000 (including flights, accommodation, on-ground costs) plus fundraising costs.

A trip taking place to Cambodia or India is typically AUD$2,500 – $3,000 (including flights, accommodation, on-ground costs) plus fundraising costs.

Am I required to fundraise?

All volunteers are encouraged to commit to fundraising for Hope Global projects. We ask that each volunteer commits to fundraising (or donating) a minimum of $1,000. These funds will go towards funding Hope Global’s projects (including the project/s your team will be working on while in-country). A small amount will be retained for Hope Global administration.

ALL FUNDRAISING/DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

We will provide individuals with an online peer to peer fundraising page for you to share with friends and provide other some suggestions to help you achieve this.

Are the trip costs tax-deductible?

Trip costs are not tax-deductible. However upon request, we do offer letter outlining trip dates and the purpose for which you are going. In Australia, this letter has been sufficient evidence for accountants and tax agents to claim trip costs as tax deductible, however we cannot guarantee this.

Can I tag any other trips before or after my Hope Global trip?

Yes you can! We just require you to let you’re the office and your Team Leader and know. Our partners at Mission Travel can arrange these travel plans for you too, however, we do ask that all volunteers either fly in or fly out with the team. Your team leader will let you know what date you need to arrive in-county and what date you are required to be in-county until. Travel outside these dates is up to you.

How do I submit an application to volunteer with Hope Global?

To apply, simply fill out our online application form here.

As well as your personal details, we will need a pastoral and personal reference, a Working with Children’s Check, National Police Check and a copy of your passport.
